The Dune Scoops Loch Ness Mini is a handmade titanium sand scoop with a compact 9 x 6.25 inch bucket, built for detectorists who hunt dry sand and want the lightest serious scoop they can carry all day. At roughly 0.75 kg (about 1.7 lb) for the scoop head, titanium gives you the strength of a welded metal scoop at a fraction of the fatigue, and it shrugs off corrosion without any coating to chip.

Who the Mini Fits, and Who Should Size Up

Dune Scoops rates this scoop for dry sand, where its tighter bucket and fast-draining hex mesh excel. The mini bucket is an advantage for towel-line and dry-beach hunting: less sand per scoop means faster sifting on light targets. If you dig in wet salt sand or hunt in the water, a larger bucket with more holding capacity is usually the better tool; you will find full-size options among our beach metal detectors' matching gear, and our beach metal detecting guide walks through matching scoop size and material to the beaches you hunt.

Design Details That Matter in the Sand

The bucket is perforated with hexagonal holes from 7 to 10 mm with roughly 4 mm between them. Dune Scoops sized the mesh so dry sand passes quickly while the targets you care about stay put, since most coins and rings are well over 10 mm across. The angled back wall doubles as a foot stop, so in packed sand you can drive the scoop with your boot instead of your wrists. A stiffening rib and reinforced top tube keep the thin titanium rigid, and the roughly 30 mm handle socket takes any of Dune's two-piece handles, with a 4 to 6 mm pin hole for locking the pole in place.

Every Dune scoop is handmade, so expect small individual variations in color and tooling marks; your scoop may differ slightly from the photos. Handle color and grip type may also vary.

Package Options

The scoop is sold on its own or paired with a two-piece travel handle, and each handle choice is pictured in the gallery:

  • Scoop only: for hunters who already own a Dune pole or want to fit their own.
  • Stainless steel handle: the budget pick; strongest feel underfoot, heaviest in hand.
  • Titanium handle: matches the scoop's corrosion resistance and cuts handle weight.
  • Carbon fiber handle: the lightest total package for all-day dry-sand sessions.
  • Handle plus finds pouch packages: add a camo finds pouch for recoveries; pouches also live in our carry bags and pouches collection if you want to pick one separately.
